Convert a WordPress or WooCommerce site to an Android app

WordPress already does the hard work — content, users, orders. Converting it to an app gives your readers or customers a home-screen icon without a second system to maintain.

Short answerMake sure your WordPress theme is responsive, then paste the site's URL into Website to App, add your name, icon and colours and tap Build. Logins, WooCommerce carts and checkouts work because the app keeps cookies like a browser. No plugin is required, and every post or product you publish appears in the app instantly.

Prepare WordPress (10 minutes)

  • Responsive theme. Check every important page in mobile Chrome. Block themes and most modern themes are fine.
  • HTTPS everywhere. Mixed http/https content can be blocked inside the app.
  • Speed. A caching plugin and compressed images make the app feel much snappier.
  • Pop-ups. Cookie banners and newsletter pop-ups feel heavier in an app — show them once, or hide them in the app (below).

Convert it

  1. Install Website to App and sign in once.
  2. Paste your site URL. Shops often start on /shop/; membership sites on /my-account/.
  3. Upload your site icon (Appearance → Customize → Site Identity uses the same 512 px square).
  4. Set the theme colour to your header colour.
  5. Build, install and test login, cart and checkout end to end.

WooCommerce specifics

  • Payments: card forms (Stripe, Square) work in the app. PayPal and some bank gateways open their own pages — that's expected.
  • Sessions: customers stay logged in between launches.
  • Google login plugins: Google blocks its sign-in in embedded WebViews; offer email login too.
  • Downloads: digital products (PDFs, ZIPs) download to the phone's Downloads folder.

Clean up the layout inside the app

Add a small snippet to your theme (or a code-snippets plugin) that adds a class when the page is shown inside your app, then hide the bits the app doesn't need:

<script>
if (/; wv\)/.test(navigator.userAgent)) document.documentElement.classList.add('in-app');
</script>
<style>
.in-app .site-footer, .in-app .get-our-app-banner { display: none; }
</style>

The WebView detector shows what your phone reports and generates a version of this snippet.

Push notifications for new posts and orders

With Pro, the app supports native push notifications, so you can tell readers about a new article or shoppers about a sale — far more visible than email.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert my WordPress site to an app for free?

Yes. Paste the URL into Website to App and build a signed APK for free with no watermark. Google Play publishing needs an AAB, which comes with Pro.

Do I need a WordPress app plugin?

No. The app displays your existing site, so no plugin or API setup is required.

Will WooCommerce checkout work in the app?

Yes. Carts, accounts and most payment gateways work; some gateways open their own secure page.

Does the app update when I publish a new post?

Yes, instantly — it shows your live website.

Can I hide the footer or menu inside the app?

Yes. Detect the WebView with a one-line script and hide elements with CSS, as shown above.
